Donald D. Roberts, 78, of May, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at a Brownwood nursing facility. Funeral services with military honors, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday Sept. 27, 2008, at the funeral home Chapel with Hershel Poteet officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Friday evening at the funeral home. Grandsons Troy, Daniel, and Chris Roberts, Chris and Matt Dolby, T.J. Harrell, and Matthew Hindi will be pallbearers at the funeral service. Donald Roberts was born May 4, 1930, in Cimarron, Kan., to C. E. and Irene (Sagebart) Roberts. His parents relocated multiple times due to work with the railroad. After graduating high school, Don joined the United States Navy and served as First Aid Attendant. Following being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, Don went to work in the oil fields of West Texas. He was married to Louise Kenyon in Yuma, Ariz., on Jan. 14, 1950. His primary job was that of Peace Officer, beginning in Pecos, Texas, in 1956 and later moving to the Brown County Sheriff’s office where he retired after 10 years there. In May, Texas, he became the No.1 Tigers fan, especially for the girls basketball teams. Mr. Roberts is survived by his sons, Dwayne Roberts and wife Debbie of Round Rock, Larry Roberts and wife Janet of Lake Brownwood, and Donnie Roberts and wife Marneice of Midland; daughters, Denise Dolby and husband Gregg of Euless and Kathryn Harrell of Brownwood; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Burdick, Marilyn Creager, Jody Hindi and Karen Poteet; brothers, Eddie B. Roberts and Gary Roberts; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Louise Roberts; parents, C.E. and Irene Roberts; brother, Norman Roberts.
