James C. Lewis, age 85, of Lake Brownwood, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Rising Star Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Tony King officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. James Calvin Lewis was born Nov. 20, 1925, in Waldrip, Texas, the son of the late Marvin Wesley and Ida Etta Hobs Lewis. He was married to Myrna Rae Maynard on May 24, 1942, in Rising Star, Texas. She preceded him in death May 12, 2008. James served in the United States Army during the Asiatic Pacific Theater, Philippine Liberation, and the occupation of Japan; he also served in the Air Force Reserves. He then worked for the Local 401 Union working on conveyer belts at airports and post offices. James enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a Baptist and had lived at Lake Brownwood since1986. Survivors include a daughter, Sue Matthews of May; a son, Rex Lewis and wife Joy of Rising Star; an adopted daughter, Pam Ulan and husband Jerry of Albion, Pa.; a sister, Ora Lee Lawrence of De Leon; grandchildren, Debbie Harris and husband Leonard, Jimmy Lewis and wife Terri, Johnny Lewis and wife Debbie, all of Fort Worth, Cindy Russell and husband Gary of Dublin, and Wes Lewis of Colorado; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers serving will be Larry Parker, Zack Bilbrey, Bobby Simkins, Billy Bilbrey, Dave Thome, and Greg Grimes.
