Funeral services for Henry Ruben Firth, 69, of Lake Brownwood, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Brian Hall officiating.
Interment will follow with military honors at Pleasant Valley Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 3, at the funeral home.
Mr. Firth passed away on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Henry Ruben Firth was born on Oct. 5, 1938, in Hampton, Va., one of four children born to Elton E. Firth and Elizabeth Firman Firth. He was raised and attended school in Poquoson, Va., and graduated from Poquoson High School. He later served his country by joining the United States Air Force in April of 1962. He married the love of his life, Ethel Lorine Beeman, on July 30, 1964, at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene.
Mr. Firth had been a sandblaster and had worked for the LTV Company of Texas before retiring in 1995. He enjoyed lawn work, woodworking and collecting John Deere Tractors. Taking care of his family was very important to Henry. His wife of 44 years was the light of his life, but his true passion was the Lake Brownwood Bridge VFD, it was also his “home away from home.” He had lived in Brownwood for the last 12 years, moving here from Euless, Texas, and was a member of the Haven of Hope Church in Brownwood.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Lorine Firth of Lake Brownwood; three daughters, Cynthia Doyle and husband Dan, of Indianapolis, Ind., Sheila Hull and fiancée Randy Sliger, of Bangs, Connie Summers and fiancée Joe Jefferson of Sulfer, Okla.; one son, Henry Firth Jr. and wife Talia Rohkohl of Bedford; two brothers, Roger Firth and wife Linda of Appomattox, Va., and Moody “Dink” Firth and wife Phyllis of Poquoson, Va.; one sister, Sue Bailey and husband Jimmy, of Boca Rotan, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Elizabeth Firth and a grandson, Bradley Ruben Doyle.
