Novene Kelley Cox, 91, of Tomball, Texas, formerly of Brownwood, passed away in Tomball Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008. Funeral services, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at the Davis-Morris Chapel. Novene was born in 1917 to Henry Pleas and Bertha Ester (Webb) Kelley in Bell County, Texas. Her family moved to the May, Texas, area when she was a child. She attended school in Rocky and May. She married Aubrey Cox on Oct. 19, 1935, in Rising Star, Texas. While living in several West Texas locations including Snyder, she worked as a beautician for 40 years. During retirement in Brownwood, she was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, and later in Tomball she was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star and received her 50th year recognition in 1999. Mrs. Cox is survived by daughter, Sheila Gattis and husband Jim of Tomball; grandchildren, Tory Gattis and wife Lynn of Houston and Jay Gattis and wife Jackie of Orange County, California; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband Aubrey and parents, Henry and Bertha Kelley.
