Funeral services for Martha Jo McBride Cobb will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 13, at First Baptist Church of Marble Falls, 501 12th St., with the Rev. Steve Peace officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Cemetery near May under the direction of Putnam Funeral Home of Kingsland. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Cobb died May 7, 2004. She was born to Hugh Frank and Ola Frances McBride on July 10, 1937, in Brown County. She grew up near May, graduating from the May Public School in 1955, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She married Claude Charles Cobb on June 4, 1955. She and Claude lived in Brownwood, Midland, El Paso, Van Nuys, Calif. and Houston. Martha was a wife and mother of two daughters. When her daughters were grown, she went to work for General Cinema Theaters. In 1979, she went to work for Ruska Instrument Corp. in Houston where she worked for 13 years. In 1992, Claude and Martha retired and moved to Kingsland. She was a member of the Kingsland House of Arts and Crafts where she served in several different capacities. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, gardening and helping with meals-on-wheels. She was a member of the Hope Sunday School class and First Baptist Church of Marble Falls. Martha is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold McBride; a sister, Bonnie Williams and an infant brother. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Claude Cobb of Kingsland; daughters, Gwenda and her husband, Tom Messner, of Goodrich; Lisa and her husband, Merle Hobbs, of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Lindsay Messner of Goodrich, Shannon Hobbs of Carrollton, Michael and Martha Hobbs of Phoenix; sisters, Jerrie Sue and her husband, Henry Orr, of May, Helen McBride of McKinney; brother-in-law, Bill Cobb and his wife, Shirley, of Iowa Park; sisters-in-law, Lomah and her husband, Wayne Pittman, of May, Naomi and her husband, Joe Ragsdale, of San Saba, Melba McBride of Brownwood and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Weldon Bogus, Robert Daniels, Darrell Dodson, Barry Harris, Don James, Jimmy Rolan, T.R. Snider and Gerald Waddell. Members of the Kingsland House of Arts and Crafts are honorary pallbearers.
