Wayne was the son of Luther Bell Buris and Melvina Ann Manley. He married Mildred Faye Jones December 17, 1943 in May, Texas. She was the daughter of David Hall Jones and Ida Boyd. He was inducted into the army at Fort Walters in Mineral Wells, Texas for service in World War II. He served in the 26th Infantry from May 19, 1944 to September 19, 1945. He was stationed at Camp Fannin in Tyler, Texas and served World War II combat duty in Germany. Citations and awards included E.F.O Combat Infantry, Good Conduct, and the Purple Heart.
