Ivan O. Reynolds, 91, of Bangs and formerly of Brownwood, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018, surrounded by his family. Funeral services for Ivan were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29 at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel with Terry Simmons officiating. Burial followed at Bangs Cemetery. Ivan was laid to rest beside his older brother, Robert Reynolds. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements were under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood. Ivan was born to Edward and Cynthia (Barnett) Reynolds on December 2, 1926 in Kenedy, Texas. He was the 6th child born to the couple, 11 years after his closest brother, Robert was born in 1915. The Reynolds family moved from south Texas sometime in the late 1920’s to south Coleman County, near Whon, Texas. Ed Reynolds was a farmer, the family moved where work was available so their home was later in the Liberty Community, east of Santa Anna, the Mukewater Community, west of Bangs and in 1935, Brownwood. The last move was to Bangs in 1939 where Ivan attended school for several years. In 1945, near the end of WWII, Ivan was drafted into the U.S. Army. His basic training in Field Artillery was held in Paris, Texas before being transferred to Seattle, Washington. Shortly thereafter, he was sent to Porta Rico where he and others prepared to be shipped to Japan. Peace was declared in August 1945, before their departure. Ivan was discharged in 1946. After his return from the service, Ivan met and married Mary Stephens on June 17, 1949. He then enlisted in the Army Reserves and spent additional active duty during the 1950’s. For some time he was stationed at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin where he served as a Master Sargent in the 330th Field Artillery Battalion, Battery B. While Ivan and Mary lived in Wisconsin, their first child, Linda Gail was born in 1951. In 1953 he was discharged from active duty and the family returned to Brownwood, Texas where their second child, James Allen was born later that year. Ivan began his long-time career with the Texas Highway Department and a third child, Stephen Edward was born in 1957. Ivan’s final discharge from the U.S. Army was on the 23-Apr-1958. He and Mary divorced in 1970. Ivan was a Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed watching old western movies and collecting antiques. He also loved animals and going gambling. Ivan was survived by his two sons, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Linda Krehbiel, brothers Hubbard Reynolds, Robert Reynolds and an infant, as well as sisters, Edna Daniels and Velma Creekmore.
