BANGS -- Verdi Nell 'Billie' Owens, 93, of Bangs passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2003, in Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
A resident of Bangs since 1979, she was born to S.P. and Addie Martin in Bangs. She was a former secretary to the director of Greyhound Bus Company before she married her husband, Thomas B. Owens, in Marietta, Okla., on Sept. 26, 1941. They were co-owners of a successful ceramic tile business.
A member of the Bangs First Baptist Church and the Federated Music Club of Brownwood, one of her favorite pastimes in her early years was playing the violin. She was also a very avid University of Texas football fan.
She is survived by her sister, Melba Jones of Austin; a niece, Janela Barnes of Austin; four nephews, Lee Page of Austin, Jerry Page of Bedford, Larry Martin of Richland Hills, and Rubin Martin of Mansfield; and a very special friend, Lana Cox of Bangs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas B. Owens, and her parents, S.P. and Addie Martin.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2003, in the Bangs Cemetery with Bro. Lee Evans officiating. Davis-Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 4-5 p.m.
