Funeral services for Stanley Jones, Sr., 74, of Bangs, will be held Monday, March 3, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Brother John Sterling officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Mr. Jones was born Dec. 3, 1928, in Houston, Texas, to the parentage of the late James and Pearl Petree Jones. He grew up and was educated in the Houston Independent School District. He was a 1945 graduate of the historic Phyllis Wheatley High School in Houston, Texas. He married Esther Wooten in Houston April 26, 1945. They remained a loving couple until his death. To this union were born three children.
Mr. Jones was a former boxing Middle Weight Champion. He was a retired master mechanic for Chemical Lehman Trucking Company in Houston, where he was a member of the Teamsters Union. He moved his family to Brownwood over 20 years ago. After his retirement from Lehman he worked as a landscaper for Wal-Mart and a bus driver for the Brookesmith Independent School District. He was a member of the New Testament Holiness Church in Bangs, Texas.
Mr. Jones left his home on 6th Street in Bangs to live with the Master Mechanic in Heaven on Monday, Feb. 24, 2003.
Left sharing love and memories are his wife of over 56 years, Esther Jones of Bangs; one son, Stanley Jones, Jr. and wife, Shelia, of Houston; two daughters, Vickie Brown and husband, Joseph, of Dallas and Chris Reese and husband, Clinton, of Ft. Worth; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of relatives and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by both parents and one sister.
Mr. Jones will be taken to his earthly bed in the Bangs Cemetery following services under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.
