Marian Helen Emerson, 89, died on Thursday, Jan 18, 2018 in Brownwood, Texas.
Marion Helen Jackson was born on Friday, March 24, 1928 to Albert Jackson and Esther Bloomquist in Palisade Village in the state of Minnesota. Marian Helen was baptized at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Palisade Minnesota on June 21, 1931.
Marian was a graduate of Hursh Business College in Duluth, Minnesota. When she graduated, November 1, 1946 she could type an average of 52 words per minute and could take shorthand at the rate of 100-110 words per minute. In 1945 she was awarded the title of 'Sweater Girl' by the male students of the college.
On May 22, 1945 Marian received an award from the War Service in sincere appreciation for her voluntary service in the operation of price control and rationing.
Marian moved to Texas in 1948, and on July 5, 1955, started a career with Cosden Oil Company in Midland Texas.
In 1983 Marian married Melvin L. Emerson.
She is survived by her older sister Norma Higby of Rugby, North Dakota, nieces and nephews and 4 step children and spouses, Roy A. and Vickie McNeely, Allan and Patricia Bass, Mark and Brenda Palmer and Ricky Emerson.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Emerson, her Mother and Father, Albert and Esther Jackson, her sister Anita Jackson Ruddell and daughter, Lita Fern Cox.
Marian loved music and holidays, especially Christmas! The last Christmas she spent in her home she decorated the house to make sure everything looked 'just so'. She loved it so much the Christmas tree stayed up till June when she reluctantly packed everything away. She took pride in her home, she was independent and hardworking and continued to do chores like painting and mowing lawns well after her 80th birthday.
Marian's friends and family will miss her bubbly upbeat personality. She loved to entertain by having guests for dinner but the main event was always the desert! (She loved her sweets) She often regaled guests with her piano playing, she loved for people to gather around and sing while she played. She continued to play the piano at the rest home for the residents up until a couple of months before her death.
Marian will be buried in Bangs cemetery beside her husband. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Jan 25th at 2:00 oclock.
